SWANSEA - With Covid-19 complications affecting the way people congregate, Skip Hall discovered a creative way to get people involved with prayer.
Hall recently founded PrayerStop, an organization that offers prayer drive-ins. The company’s goal currently is to conduct an event every two weeks in different local locations.
The way the events work is simple: Drivers just drive up, park and receive prayer.
Hall’s idea for this company has stemmed from his desire for people to connect with God. Hall and his company focus their events on a concept known as “collision theory,” which he described as “the more the church bumps into the community, the more the community bumps into Christ.”
They are connected to His Providence Church in Swansea, but are willing to be a resource to other churches in the community. Hall, who lives in Westport, said as the company grows, his goal is to conduct multiple events each weekend, and he’d like to reach as far as New Bedford and Providence.
Before the pandemic, Hall focused on people getting involved in one-on-one moments of opportunity. But now with the Covid-19 restrictions in place to reduce the spread of the virus, Hall came up with the idea of prayer drive-ins.
“We just create moments to be architects of hope by leading people to real hope,” he said, adding that the events are not complicated. He and his organization encourage people of all backgrounds to attend and invite them to accept prayer for whatever situations they may be facing.
Hall and his organization have been and will continue to follow public health procedures and guidelines to make sure that the encounters are as safe as possible, including wearing masks and gloves and distancing.
He said he expected for people especially in this area to be hesitant to want people to pray for them, but said many people have left crying because of the profound personal encounter.
Hall said there are other ways for people to get involved if they are still uncomfortable going out in public; they have been handing out opt-in message cards for people to receive prayer apart from the in-person events.
PrayerStop’s next event is on Saturday, June 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Correia’s Market, 500 Read St. in Somerset.
The next event after that will be in Fall River, and anyone interested can reach out at 401-207-5957.
