Mazda abandoned the pickup truck partnership with Ford after more than three decades and has turned to Isuzu for the latest-generation BT-50.
Officially unveiled two days ago, the all-new Mazda BT-50 is now based on the latest Isuzu D-Max. Yes, while it totally looks like a Mazda, especially at the front where the ‘Kodo’ design language works really well, the BT-50 is all Isuzu underneath.
The dashboard is the only exception as the Mazda looks a bit more upscale than the Isuzu. While many switches and dials are carried over from the D-Max, the BT-50’s cabin exudes a more premium feel.
In these walkaround videos from Australia’s CarExpert and CarAdvice, we get to see the 2021 Mazda BT-50 in great detail. So we learn that the interior features more soft-touch materials than the Isuzu and the build quality is impressive – for a pre-production vehicle, at least.
When it launches on the Australian market in the second half of 2020, the 2021 BT-50 will come in dual-cab configuration with a comprehensive equipment. Standard features will include dual-zone automatic climate control, USB connectivity, 4.2-inch display in the instrument panel, heated front seats, parking sensors, automatic headlights and wipers, Hill Descent Control, 4WD system with rear differential lock, and a lot more.
In Australia, the BT-50 will feature the same 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine as the D-Max, rated at 188 HP (190 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. Mazda promises “excellent fuel economy” for this powertrain. Head over to the video to learn more about the all-new Mazda BT-50.
