A teacher who told a female student to wear a skirt to school so he could 'f*** her in the classroom' has been jailed.

Gavin Malcolm Duncan, 32, from Jamisontown in Western Sydney, pleaded guilty to three counts of having sexual intercourse with a person in his care over his relationship with a 17-year-old Katoomba High School student in mid 2018.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison with a non-parole period of seven months at Penrith District Court on Tuesday.

He will be eligible for release in January next year, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Police said Duncan would speak to the student about school issues and personal issues, with their conversations growing more 'flirtatious'.

The Blue Mountains teacher gave the pupil his mobile number in 2017 and they began exchanging texts outside of school hours.

While they were chatting in June the following year, Duncan paid for an Uber to drop her off at his Glenmore home so they could have sex.

As she left his home, the educator told her to wear a skirt to school the next day 'f*** her in the classroom'.

The pair arranged to meet again several weeks later after exchanging flirty texts at a State of Origin game.

They went to his home and had sex for a second time.

The following week, during their third sexual encounter, Duncan told the teenager: 'Everything about this is so wrong, but this feels so f***ing good'.

The pair met up at school the next week to discuss their relationship, with Duncan expressing concerns about being caught.

He told the 17-year-old they should cease being intimate as he feared if she developed feelings for him that were unreturned, she may dob him in out of spite.

Duncan (pictured) initially told police the teenager was 18 when their sexual relationship began then later confessed it started when she was 17

However, the sexual relationship continued after the student turned 18 and until she graduated from the school.

Rumours about the pair's relationship began spreading through the school in mid-2019.

The school principal approached Duncan about the rumours, prompting him to tell the teen to deny their relationship.

He later confessed to a fellow teacher who then contacted police, resulting in him being suspended from the school in June last year.

Duncan initially told officers the student was 18 when the sexual relationship started but later admitted it began when she was 17.
