K ShanmugamCHENNAI: As city comes under 12-day intense lockdown from Friday, chief secretary K Shanmugam asked officials in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet and Thiruvallur districts to enforce the curbs strictly.
While police have warned that those found moving out will be booked under Sec 144 and their vehicles will be impounded, residents can only walk to buy vegetables and groceries from shops located within 2km radius. Grocery shops can operate between 6am to 2pm and restaurants can offer takeaway services only between 6am and 8pm on all these days. On the two Sundays, June 21 and 28, there will be a complete lockdown, and except milk supply, hospitals, pharmacies, ambulance services, emergency and funeral hearse vans, no other activity will be permitted. The state is also planning to geo-fence home-isolated patients and quarantined contacts to ensure they don't move around. Autorickshaws and taxis will not be allowed to ply except for medical emergencies.
