Two militants have been killed in separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir, while others have taken refuge in nearby mosques at both locations.

The encounters, in Shopian and Pulwama districts, are still underway as the security forces are trying to nab militants hiding inside the mosque.

In Pulwama, the gunfight with militants broke out after security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Meej in the Pampore area after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

According to a police official, the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated. One militant has been killed so far, the official said, adding the join operation with the Indian Army was still in progress.

As per the latest update from the Indian Army, the rest of the militants have entered a nearby mosque to take refuge from the ongoing gunfight.

A similar incident panned out in Shopian, where Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Amry and paramilitary forces took out a militant in a gunfight, while others took refuge in a mosque, DGP, J&K Police told India Today TV.
