KwaZulu-Natal government officials are providing temporary structures - including marquees - and three hot meals a day to fire victims who lost their homes in Durban.
More than 100 people were left homeless in two fires over the past two weeks.
In the eNkanini informal settlement in KwaMashu, a fire broke out and left a trail of destruction on Monday.
In another incident, a fire ripped through the Malacca Road informal settlement in Redhill in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and a number of people homeless.
The provincial social development department, the eThekwini Municipality and a number of non-government organizations have provided temporary shelters and meals for the fire victims to help them in the cold weather.
On Wednesday, the eThekwini Municipality delivered building material to the victims so they could start rebuilding their homes.
They were also given bags of soups, mielie meal, blankets, foam mattresses and emergency packs.
Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza urged the victims to take care of themselves and their children while government helped them to rebuild their homes.
"It is sad to note that one person lost his life due to the fire," she said Khoza.
"The deceased is from Nquthu, Northern KwaZulu-Natal area."
