Security forces have encircled a group of militants in south Kashmir's Shopian and engaged in a gunfight, second such encounter since Thursday morning.
"A joint operation was launched at Bandapoh area in Shopian on Thursday afternoon. During the cordon a contact was established (with hiding militants). A gunfight has ensued," an army spokesman said.
Two to three militants are believed to be trapped at the encounter site, preliminary reports suggest.
Earlier, one militant was killed in an operation of the security forces in south Kashmir's Pulwama on Thursday.
A police spokesman said a gunfight erupted in the Meej area of Pampore area when the security forces launched a search and cordon operation to flush out hiding militants.
An Army spokesman said the militants have taken shelter in a nearby mosque.
A police official said one militant has been killed "but the body is yet to be retrieved from the encounter site".
"Police and the security forces are on the job," said the police spokesman.
On Tuesday, security forces killed three terrorists in Shopian district, also in South Kashmir. Two AK rifles and one INSAS rifle were recovered from the encounter site.
On Saturday, two terrorists were killed in Kulgam district.
Around 19 militants have been killed in Kashmir in the month of June.
