State looking to add 150 ambulances in Mumbai in one week
The Maharashtra Government has decided to reduce the rate of coronavirus tests by ₹300 in private pathology laboratories. Henceforth, all patients who go directly to these laboratories will be charged ₹2,500 instead of ₹2,800, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said in a statement.
Earlier, the State government had fixed a rate of ₹2,800 for Covid tests conducted in private laboratories.
Tope also said that in one week, Mumbai city would get another 150 ambulances, which will increase the number of ambulances in the city to 650. Efforts are being made to make ambulances available to Mumbaikars on time, and every civic ward has adequate availability.
In the event of an emergency, citizens should contact the Covid war room in their respective ward and request an ambulance, which will be provided free of charge, he said. The Mahindra Group had earlier donated 50 ambulances to the city, the Health Minister added.
Tope noted that 500 ICU hospital beds are already available in Mumbai, and another 100-150 beds would be added in a week. The ICU beds are being augmented at St. George’s, BKC, Seven Hills, and Worli Dome hosptials. Another 250 regular beds would be added soon at the State Workers Insurance Hospital at Kandivali in suburban Mumbai, he said.
