Goa: Youth Congress holds protest, demands sealing of borders

Members demanded that all those entering be tested for Covid-19
POINGUINIM: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) on Wednesday morning held a protest at the Polem checkpost demanding closure of all state borders to prevent entry of those infected with coronavirus. They also demanded that all those entering the state need to be compulsorily tested for the virus.
Congress’ youth body said it is important to impose a lockdown in the state as Covid-19 cases are rising. They also said the government must provide adequate safety equipment and personal protection kits to all the frontline workers. GPYC president Varad Mardolkar, office bearers and party workers participated in the protest.
“The BJP government is playing with the lives of the people. It is purely due to incompetence of the government that coronavirus cases have crossed the 500 mark in the last fortnight,” Janardhan Bhandari, general secretary of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), said.
GPCC general secretary Amarnath Panjikar said though Congress had earlier protested at the North Goa border in Patradevi, “the government has not yet opened its eyes”.
