Bengaluru unlock 1.0 news: Today's updates

As the Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from the city and across the state.

* K’taka to write to Centre for more permissions
Following a video conference between chief minister BS Yediyurappa and Prime Narendra Modi on Wednesday on ‘Unlock 2’, the state government said it will write to the Centre for permission to open up further economic activities.
The interaction between CM and PM, CMO officials said, was restricted to taking stock of states’ measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic. Modi is said to have appreciated the state’s efforts in this direction.
In the next instalment of relaxations, Karnataka proposes to resume Metro services and open theatres, gyms, swimming pools, bars, restaurants and pubs.
* Over 500 MBBS doctors working with the health and family welfare department on contract basis have threatened to resign en masse by the end of this month, if their demands for regularisation of jobs and payment on par with other colleagues are not met.
The doctors are upset with the pay disparity. “MBBS doctors recruited on a permanent basis are being paid Rs 80,000 per month, where we earn only Rs 45,000 for the same work. Most of us are posted in rural areas where doctors hesitate to work. Doctors appointed recently on contract basis under the National Health Mission are also being paid Rs 60,000. This disparity has to stop. These issues have been raised with the health minister and senior officers,” said the doctors.
* A doctor in Kolar district on Wednesday stepped out of self-quarantine and staged a dharna in protest against the delay in declaration of Covid-19 test results for which throat swabs were taken from him and 11 colleagues five days ago.
* Karnataka’s Covid-19 toll crossed 100 on Wednesday with the state reporting its highest daily deaths of eight in the past 24 hours. The toll stands at 102.
Five of these deaths and 55 of the day’s 204 fresh cases were reported from Bengaluru. The total number of the infected in the state has gone up to 7,734.
