Representative ImageTHANE: A fire broke out in the server room of the town development office on the fourth floor of the Thane Municipal Corporation HQ in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday. No one was injured but two computers were damaged.
“This looks like a sabotage attempt as there could be several files with footprints of illegal approvals given to projects over the last five and a half years,” BJP corporator Narayan Pawar said.
Municipal secretary Ashok Burpulle had recently warned the security and other departments of the TMC about a sabotage attempt at the town development office.
The BJP demanded a thorough inquiry and urged CM Uddhav Thackeray to ensure all real estate project files approved in the last five years and a half be taken over by the CID to ensure their safety.
Santosh Kadam, chief of the Thane regional disaster management cell, said a fire call was received at 4 am. He said a TV set accidentally left on might have overheated and caused a short circuit.
