Ghaziabad: The district administration on Tuesday reopened roads leading to Vaishali after 16 days as the area was placed under sector scheme due to spurt in Covid-19 cases. However, the five containment zones are still under complete lockdown.
The administration had earlier opened shops in the township following protests by the residents.
“All roads leading to Vaishali that include areas near Sector 5, Shopprix Mall, Sector 1 and Max hospital have been thrown open from Tuesday. The sector scheme was imposed in the township on June 1,” said subdivisional magistrate Aditya Prajapati.
Anirudh Vasistha from Vaishali Udyog Vyapar Mandal, who was at the forefront of the protest against the administration demanding reopening of shops said, “We are relieved that good sense finally prevailed over the administration and now they are giving relaxations, first over the opening of shops and now the roads.”
“With an estimated population of over 1.5 lakh, Vaishali residents were facing a lot of problems due to imposition of the sector scheme. We were under house arrest for more than a fortnight,” added Vasistha.
Anish Kumar, a resident of Sector 3 said, “We had to take a detour of about 3km to reach the main road before entering Indirapuram, as other roads were shut. We were not even sure which road was closed and had to return.”
Vaishali is separated from Indirapuram by the Hindon canal and is connected with at least half a dozen culverts. The administration had barricaded it for checking movement into the township. They have been removed now.
