Coronavirus in Chennai: West Mambalam police inspector dies of Covid-19

CHENNAI: Inspector of police S Balamurali attached to the West Mambalam police died of Covid-19 on Wednesday. He was 46. He is the first personnel in the Tamil Nadu police department to die of Covid-19.
Balamurali, who was undergoing treatment in the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital (Omandurar government hospital), was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Tuesday after his health condition deteriorated.
On Wednesday, his oxygen level came down, and his body failed to respond to medicines.
Balamurali’s father is a retired police inspector.
Balamurali, a hailing from a village near Vellore, is survived by his wife, Kavitha, a 16-year-old daughter studying in Class XII and 13-year-old son studying in Class VIII. He stayed at the police quarters in Vadapalani.
Around 700 police personnel have contracted Covid-19 in the state.
