West Bengal: CM Mamata Banerjee decides to give special incentives to junior doctors to fight Covid-19

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that she held an important meeting with the doctors fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, while the PM held a meeting with the CMs of other states.
Banerjee said that Bengal was not given a slot to speak in the meeting with the PM. Due to this, "I decided to utilize the time by holding the meeting with the workers at the grassroots.
The CM said that a party MLA was critical though his family members were recovering from Covid infection. She said that fire department minister Sujit Bose had also recovered.
The CM said chief whip of Trinamool Congress Nirmal Ghosh was also undergoing treatment and his son had also tested positive for the infection.
The CM decided to give special weightage to those medicos who are working in Covid hospitals. The CM said that West Bengal had a higher number of discharges than those who were testing positive.
" West Bengal has set up 104 safe home centres for those with mild symptoms or mild fever. This will reduce the load from hospitals," she said.
The CM said that the state government will give 10% incentive to Covid-19 warriors who are doing post-graduation in medical streams. She said that already 5,000 trainee nurses had been involved in the fight against Covid-19.
She said that the interns will also get special appreciation as Covid warriors and the government will see that in no way their learning process is hampered while working in Covid hospitals.
She said that the undergraduate medicos, who are in their final year, will work as Covid trainees on a rotational basis and will also get certificates as Covid warriors.
The CM said that private hospitals need to provide real-time updates of availability of beds so that the patients do not get harassed.
