Waste dumped on roadsides enter compounds of Raia residents

Margao: The waste that was filled in small plastic bags and dumped along the Sonsoddo road entered into the compounds of nearby houses at Damon east areas of Raia with the heavy showers on Tuesday night.

The locals have decided to block the said road in protest of the un-civilised act of some people who dumped their waste at the roadsides at Sonsoddo.

“Waste entered into our compounds through the gates with the gushing rain water on the slope. We have decided to protest over the matter.   We do not understand why people do this,’’ said V Cardozo, an affected resident of Damon east.

Another resident said they have decided to protest by blocking the road. “We have to draw the attention of the authorities and those people who dump the waste here,’’ he added.

The Raia panchayat had cleared this waste recently. The sarpanch Emma Gomes had appealed to the people not to throw their waste at the roadside. She also had warned that these areas would be strictly monitored with the installation of CCTV cameras.
