Coronavirus: Tamil Nadu’s Covid-19 tally crosses 50,000, death toll reaches 576

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 48 Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday even as the the case tally in the state crossed the 50,000-mark to reach 50,193.
The state reported 2,174 fresh cases after testing 24,621 people in the last 24 hours.
The death toll touched 576. Among the people who died, 10 had no comorbidities.
Chennai logged 1,276 cases. Its neighbouring districts Chengalpet reported 162 cases while Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur recorded 61 and 90 new cases, respectively.
Barring Ariyalur, Erode, Perambalur and Tiruppur, all other districts reported cases.
Of the 80 returnees who tested positive, five had travelled from the UAE, four from Saudi Arabia, three from Singapore and two each from Kuwait and Malaysia. The remaining were passengers who returned from states like Odisha, Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala.
At the end of the day, 842 people were discharged and 21,990 were still under treatment. So far, 27,624 patients have recovered.
