Jantjies was linked with a move to France but the Lions recently confirmed that the pivot will stay in Johannesburg.
Agen were initially interested in acquiring Jantjies' services, while another French club, Pau, asked the Lions to release him early from his contract or on a loan agreement.
In an interview with Netwerk24, the 29-year-old opened up on why he stayed in Johannesburg.
"I don't play rugby for the money. I play rugby for the right reasons and money is definitely not one of them.
"The Lions are special to me and it’s where my heart is. I'm part of the Lions' leadership and I'm not going to make a quick decision and turn my back on the union in pursuit of money," he added.
"I feel like my career is on track at the Lions and the Springboks and that’s why I have no ambition to go play abroad. Of course, I'd have earned a lot more in France, but that’s not what it's about for me.
"Things like security, family life and other factors played a role in my decision and I’m very satisfied with the choice I made."
Jantjies, who has played 37 Tests, has been on the Lions' books since 2010.
During that time, he enjoyed stints in Japan (NTT Shining Arcs, 2014-2018) and the Stormers (2013 Super Rugby season).
At the conclusion of SA Rugby's recent 21-day 'transfer window', the Lions did part ways with Malcolm Marx, Ruan Vermaak, Tyrone Green, Shaun Reynolds and assistant coach Neil de Bruin.
