Scrap Chinese firm's contract for Metro project: Maharashtra minister
Maharashtra NCP minister Jitendra Awhad has asked the Centre to scrap the Delhi-Meerut Metro work contract bagged by a Chinese firm. "After the talk of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), the contract has been awarded to a Chinese company. Who gave the contract? Under whose jurisdiction the Railways comes? Is it not the Centre?" Awhad asked in a tweet on Wednesday, while demanding that the contract be scrapped.

Mortal remains of martyr K Palani laid to rest in TN village with full state honours
Palani was among 20 Indian Army personnel who died in a bloody faceoff with the People’s Liberation Army of China at Galwan in Ladakh on Monday night. Palani’s mortal remains reached Madurai airport around 11pm on Wednesday. The body was handed over to his kin and was taken to Kadakalur by road. The mortal remains were carried by Army personnel for burial around 7am. The body was laid to rest with 21 rounds of firing and full state honours.

Quoting Hu Zhiyong, a research fellow at the Institute of International Relations of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, in an editorial published in the state newspaper on Wednesday said, "India has engaged in border disputes with China, Pakistan and Nepal at the same time. As Pakistan is a reliable strategic partner of China, and Nepal also has close ties with China, and both of them are key partners under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, if India escalates border tensions, it could face military pressure from two or even three fronts, which is far beyond India's military capability and this might lead to a disastrous defeat for India."

China sees itself as a superpower, can’t be trusted: Veterans of 1962
Air Marshal BD Jayal (retired), 84, a former Air Force pilot who was serving in the eastern sector when the ’62 war broke out, added that the present aggression by China is happening because “it sees itself as a regional superpower and potential global superpower and wants to keep India in check. China is facing flak from almost every major country and therefore it is acting in this manner. Havildar Karan Singh, 82, another veteran of the 1962 war, said that “if that war almost 60 years ago had taught us anything, it was that the Chinese are never to be trusted.”
In heart-wrenching scenes, coffins of soldiers arrived in several states for the last rites with full military honours. Even as they struggled to come to terms with the shocking news and grieved over the lives cut short, family members of the soldiers said they were proud of their sacrifice. Anti-China protests were held in several parts of the country, including the national capital, though restrictions were in place on assembly of people due to the coronavirus lockdown.
US, EU and UN call for peaceful resolution of Ladakh situation
In response to a query, a US State Department spokesperson said, “Both India and China have expressed a desire to de-escalate, and we support a peaceful resolution of the current situation,” adding that the US is “closely monitoring the situation between Indian and Chinese forces along the Line of Actual Control.” EU spokesperson Virginie Battu-Henriksson said in a statement that India and China should show restraint and engage in military de-escalation, as well as continue their dialogue.

Government tells BSNL to rework tender to keep Chinese out
The department of telecommunications (DoT) has decided to convey to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) that no Chinese equipment should be used by the state-run company, which is expanding into the 4G business as part of its rehabilitation plan. The public sector company is being asked to rework its tender immediately, sources told TOI. In addition, the government is looking to impress upon private sector mobile operators to increasingly reduce their dependence on Chinese equipment.
India will give befitting reply to provocation, warns Modi
In a sharp response which can intensify the border confrontation, the PM said, “I want to assure the nation that the sacrifice made by our soldiers will not go in vain. India’s integrity and sovereignty is supreme for us, and no one can stop us from defending it. Nobody should have an iota of doubt about this. India wants peace. But when provoked, India will give a befitting reply.”
Galwan Valley ours, don’t want more clashes: China
“For us, obviously, we don’t want to see more clashes,” spokesperson Zhao Lijian said when asked if there could be more violence on the LAC. He quoted from a PLA statement on Tuesday to say that China “owns sovereignty over the Galwan Valley region”. A mix of assertive and cooling signals seemed to mark Chinese statements two days after the bloody clash.
