Representative imageDIBRUGARH: A joint team of the Army along with the police apprehended a recruiter of Ulfa-I along with a new recruit from upper Assam's Tinsukia district on Tuesday.
The nabbed handler was identified as Harijit Das, a resident of Telpani village of Lahowal area in Dibrugarh. Das, who is said to be close to the top brass of the Ulfa-I, was allegedly involved in recruitment drives on behalf of the outfit in the upper Assam districts.
A local boy, who was lured to join the outfit and has been identified as Vishwajeet Das, was also rescued from the clutches of the handler. A resident of Telpani Gaon in Lahowal, he was later released and handed over to his parents after counselling.
During the operation, one 0.22mm pistol with one magazine, two Ulfa (I) flags and three mobile phones were recovered.
On the other hand, two militants of the NSCN (IM) including a top commander were nabbed by the 3 Garhwal Rifles from Malugaon village under Ledo police station in Tinsukia district on Sunday. They were identified as Rampong Hakhun (Johnny), a local commander of the outfit, and Konseng Sangey.
Security forces recovered two pistols, 18 live rounds of ammunition, two magazines, Rs 10,000 in cash and one bag from them.
