Maharashtra: Veteran journalist Dinu Randive dies at 95

Dinu Randive, a veteran journalist dies at 95 on Tuesday after suffering from a brief illness. He was at his residence when he passed away. 

The veteran journalist began his career in 1956 with Maharashtra times as a Marathi reporter. Dinu Randive was not just a journalist, but also contributed to the freedom struggle, he participated in Samyukta Maharashtra movement and Goa liberation movement. 

Last year, Randive received lifetime achievement awards from Mantralaya Vidhimandal Vartahar Sangh and Mumbai Press Club. 

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, and Devendra Fadnavis, the opposition leader paid their tribute to veteran journalist Dinu Randive. 

Dinu Randive with his decades-long career reported several historical incidents like the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, 1974 railway strike led by George Fernandes, and the 1992-93 communal riots in Mumbai. 

He mostly wrote about the plight of the masses. His articles covered the problems of Dalits, Tribals and Mill workers. In the past twenty years, Ranvide had also written in Marathi publications. 

Recently, in a function where the journalist was invited, he reminisced the time when he stood in railway stations to count the number of trains on a daily basis, only to call out the government's bluff regarding 'normal train services'. 

Along with Dinu Randive, Savita, his wife had also participated in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement and passed away this year on May 16.
