Sushant Singh Rajput suicide: Statements of 9 people recorded, Rhea Chakraborty's pending

Statements of nine people, including Mahesh Shetty's was recorded by police today. Rhea Chakraborty's statement is yet to be recorded.

The news of Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide has sent shockwaves across the country. Preliminary reports by the police confirmed that the 34-year-old actor was battling depression for the past six months. The post-mortem report has confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation due to hanging.

The police are investigating the case further to ascertain what led him into depression and the subsequent suicide. The police, however, have said that they haven't found any foul play so far.

The police today recorded the statements of nine people in Sushant Singh Rajput's case. These include the keysmith who helped unlock Sushant's bedroom door; his three sisters - including a detailed statement of his Mumbai-based sister who was present when the news of the suicide came to light; Sushant's father; Siddharth Pithani, creative content manager and friend of Sushant's; Sushant's housekeeper Deepesh Sawant; and his friend Mahesh Shetty.

The statement of Sushant Singh Rajput's cook was recorded yesterday.

The police further confirmed that Sushant's father and sisters haven't complained about anyone. Few others, like those who have been in business with Sushant Singh Rajput, could be summoned to record a statement, with the aim to find what led him to depression. Statements that had been recorded earlier could also be re-recorded.

It was earlier reported that Sushant Singh Rajput's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty's statement will be recorded today. Further details on that are awaited.

The police have also sought the detailed final postmortem report from the hospital.

The night before his suicide, Sushant Singh Rajput had made a call to Mahesh Shetty. The call, however, went unanswered.

Mahesh Shetty's team issued a statement on Sushant Singh Rajput's death that read, "He lost a brother, let him grieve his loss. As we all are deeply pained and shocked to hear about Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise...So is Mahesh Shetty. He has lost a brother, a very dear friend and is still coming to terms with the shock and reality and is completely heartbroken. We, his team, request media and all of you, on his behalf, to please give him some privacy and let him greave for his loss (sic)."

Sushant Singh Rajput's funeral was held yesterday at Pawan Hans crematorium, Vile Parle, Mumbai. It was attended by his family and a few close friends.
