58 fresh Covid-19 cases, two deaths in Surat

SURAT: Fifty-eight fresh cases were reported in Surat city on Tuesday, including 21 from 'Covid-19 hotspot' Katargam zone, which has been reporting highest daily for the last few days.
According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, two more patients succumbed to the virus in the city. A 79-year-old woman from Udhna zone and 54-year-old man from Katargam zone died of Covid-19. Both patients have comorbid conditions. Total 111 people have lost their lives due to the virus in the city.
"There are total 761 Covid-19 active cases in the city of which 157 patients at private hospitals, 396 patients at government hospital and 46 patients are taking treatment at their home as per ICMR guidelines,'' Banchhanidhi Pani, Municipal Commissioner, Surat.
About 51 Covid-19 patients were discharged on Tuesday taking the total number of discharged patients to 1,891 in the city.
SMC officials said that they have increased the number of health surveillance teams in 'Covid-19 hotpsots' areas in Katargam, Central zone and Limbayat.
"Diabetes, Hypertension and blood pressure are among the leading comorbidity among Covid-19 death patients and our teams have started visiting people suffering comorbidity in the city for the second time and distributing Ayush ministry recommended prophylactics,'' Civic body chief said.
Meanwhile, five more Covid-19 cases were reported in Surat Rural area on Tuesday taking the total cases to 249 till date. About seven patients were discharged in Surat district on Tuesday. About 151 patients have been discharged in Surat district till now.
