Jamia announces online assessment for final year students

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia has decided against holding offline exams due to the Covid-19 pandemic as the university is concerned for students’ health. Assessment of final year students will be done based on the internal assessments through assignments, dissertations or objective questions set by the respective departments.
Jamia’s Standing Academic Council in its meeting held on June 8 under the chairpersonship of the Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar looked at the feasibility of holding offline examination for terminal semester/year in the month of July in view of the prevailing pandemic of Covid-19.
“The conduct of examination in the offline mode was found to be non-viable as the same may further compromise the well-being of students of the University who are from different states, since the likelihood of spike in the number of Covid-19,” the university said in a statement.


In order to avoid delay in conduct of examination and publication of result, the standing academic council resolved to keep the Jamia students' health concern prime, and in accordance with the flexibility given in the UGC guidelines on final semester examination mode to be adopted by each University, Jamia has decide not to have a face to face examination for open book examination in July and August in Delhi for terminal class students.


“The assessment of terminal and final year students of all programs and courses of the University for the Academic Session 2019-2020 E shall be done on the basis of online examination/assessment as given by teachers who are also the examiners and can use different modes of evaluation like assignment, dissertation, viva, or objective type questions.”


According to the university the subject teachers shall evaluate and upload the marks of the students as per the existing orientation of marks as applicable in the concerned faculty and will upload the marks on the examination portal of the university on or before June 20.
