The Maharashtra Police from March 22 to June 15 had registered 1,30,396 cases in the State under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (lockdown orders violation) and 26,887 persons have also been arrested, the Home Minister of Maharashtra said in a press statement.
The State Police has also recovered a fine of ₹7.65 crore from the citizens for various offences. Since the beginning of the lockdown, 4.85 lakh passes were issued through the Police department for essential services in the state and 6.15 lakh persons had been quarantined, Deshmukh informed in the statement.
The Home Minister, in the statement, said that during the period of lockdown the police force has been working tirelessly but still there were 266 incidents of assault on the police force and 851 persons have been arrested and further action is being taken. The 100 emergency number of the police department has been working 24 hours in all the districts and during the lockdown, 1.03 lakh calls were received.
Across the state, the State Police has also tracked down 730 people with quarantine stamps and sent them to the quarantine facilities. During this period there have also been 15 cases of visa violation by foreign nationals in the State, he said.
He added that unfortunately, in the ongoing efforts to control the spread of the pandemic, 42 policemen died due to the virus infection.
