Eleven more COVID positive cases were recorded on Tuesday at the South Goa District Hospital.

Four positive cases are of the people from Maina Curtorim (three) and Raia (one), while seven COVID cases pertained to travellers who entered the state.

Speaking about the development, COVID district coordinator and medical superintendent of Hospicio Dr Ira Almeida said, “Today we recorded 11 positive cases – four are locals while the rest are travellers. The local cases are from Curtorim and Raia. In fact, one is a relative of the patient who had tested positive yesterday.”

Raia and Maina Curtorim had reported their first COVID cases on Monday.  The travel history and a list of the people who had come in contact with them were prepared to facilitate the COVID test. The tests results threw up four more positive cases on Tuesday.

When asked about the status of the shifting of asymptomatic patients from the Margao-based designated COVID Hospital, Dr Almeida said that a total of 52 asymptomatic patients were moved to the MPT Hospital in Vasco on Tuesday.

Meanwhile the state government also opened up Calangute Residency as a COVID care centre in North Goa. In South Goa, Colva Residency and PHC Shiroda are also housing asymptomatic patients while symptomatic patients are being treated at the ESI hospital, Margao.
