Pune: Many of you have done your bit of social service, or you might have heard someone reaching out to the needy a with food and other essential products kits. But Rahul Uttarkar and Dinesh Bhandurge - two policemen from Pune City police force did something different. They reached out to the needy in distant rural areas. They helped them with much-needed food and other essential items during the lockdown.

With the help of District Disaster Management Officer Vitthal Banote, Uttarkar and Bhandurge have delivered more than 150 food kits to families located at Sakhar village, Wanjale village, Chirmodi village and even more remote places in Velhe taluka. Their kit included rice, wheat flour, oil, pulses and other essential items.

Many of these needy people were working in Pune city before the lockdown was announced. But they had to return to their native places after the lockdown started and their regular sources of income dried up. Their families were dependent on them, and they were left with no other major source of income. When Uttarkar and Bhandurge realised their precarious situation, they decided to help such families. They reached out to their friends and other organisations and raised funds for organising food kits for the needy and poor people. We will be continuing with this activity till these people need it, said Uttarkar.
