Great Fete Weekend 2020 postponed

The 2020 edition of the popular Great Fete Weekend (GFW) has been postponed.

GFW is one of the most anticipated events on Tobago’s tourism calendar, which caters to thousands of party lovers annually. Conceptualised by Kevan Gibbs in 1999, the annual GFW, now organised by Sandbox HD Entertainment, is usually held the last week of July and marketed as “the longest weekend in the world.”

It features live reggae music, soca, dancehall and hip hop, to name a few.

In a press release on Saturday, Sandbox HD Entertainment said they were hopeful while also eyeing the covid19 pandemic.

“We delayed this decision for as long as possible with the hope that things would’ve changed enough for us to offer some sort of relief after these months of lockdown.

“The world has changed significantly over the past months and we have been quickly adjusting. We understand that this is a trying (time) for many. While we are sad to share this news, we continue to remain positive with the hopes that the world will recover and return to some state of normalcy soon,” Sandbox said.

Sandbox said they will be guided by the government’s policies.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and, in the end, make the right decision which will be in the interest of our patrons’ safety.”

GFW usually begins with Welcome Wednesday, followed by Reggae Thursday, Soca Glow Friday, and We Fete Saturday, with the grand finale, Sunday Callaloo. The event has featured numerous top local, regional, and international artistes such as TI, Vybz Kartel, Future, Ashanti, Rick Ross, Lady Saw, Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Iwer George, Fabolous, Capleton, Baby Cham and Aidonia.
