(Representative image) CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday ordered distribution of cash support of Rs 1,000 at the doorsteps of all rice card cardholders in Chennai and it suburbs from June 22. Chennai and parts of its neighbouring districts will go for an intense lockdown for 12 days from June19 till June 30.
In a statement, the chief minister said, “I have ordered the department concerned to distribute the cash to cardholders at doorsteps from June 22,” he said. The CM sought people’s support to the government’s lockdown measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Besides Chennai, areas where the intense lockdown will be in force are: Tiruvallur municipality, Gummidipoondi, Ponneri and Minjur town panchayats, all village panchayats in Poonamallee, Eekadu and Sholavaram blocks in Tiruvallur district, Chengalpet and Maraimalai Nagar municipalities, Nandhivaram-Guduvanchery town panchayat all village panchayats of Kattankulathur block in Chengalpet district and Greater Chennai Police limits in Kancheepuram district.
