Incessant heavy rainfall that lashed the state since early morning  resulted in a landslide at Chorla Ghat.

Three trees also got uprooted due to the landslide, thereby blocking the road running through the ghat, and as a result the Goa-Belagavi traffic was disrupted.

Valpoi fire station officer Santosh Sawant and his team rushed to the spot to clear the mud and remove the trees from the road.

The heavy rainfall is likely to continue for the next few days, which may cause further landslides at the Chorla Ghat.

Trees also got uprooted in various parts of Sattari. Firefighters were seen busy removing the trees.

Water level of Valvanti and Mhadei rivers increased suddenly in the catchment areas due to the heavy rainfall, informed WRD engineer K P Naik.

The water level of Vavanti river rose up to 3.8 metre in Sankhali.

WRD engineer Naik said, “We have started pumping out water from the nullah as a precautionary  measure to prevent flooding in the market area.”

“The catchment area in Virdi witnessed heavy rainfall and there was sudden rise in the water level of Valvanti. In Bicholim, the water level of Bicholim river also increased, however, the situation is  totally  under control,” he added.

Many low-lying areas in the Bicholim taluka were water-logged.

Municipal workers took immediate steps, and made way for the accumulated water to drain away thereby smoothening the traffic flow, informed chief officer Vivek Naik.

Meanwhile, Sal has been put on alert as the heavy rainfall is continuing, however, the situation is totally under control, informed sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut.

Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit said that heavy rainfall has affected  normal life in the taluka.
