Amid the overcrowded jails and Corona threat, Supreme Court today said that court should prefer giving bail or parole instead of sending people to jail. SC observed this while giving parole to a Punjab businessman Jagjit Singh Chahal accused in a Bhola drug case.

“COVID-19 situation in the country is getting only worse. It is not getting any better,” observes Justice RF Nariman while allowing parole in a criminal case.

SC says it doesn’t make sense to send someone back in an overcrowded jail when he can be our on a parole. Chahal given parole till the pendency of his appeal in HC.
