The Tamil Nadu government has asked for a cut in the lockdown provided in Chennai and adjoining areas from June 19 to 30. With this, the state government has said that a complete shutdown will be implemented on both the following Sundays.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami said on Monday that a lockdown would be imposed again in Chennai and adjoining areas from June 19 to June 30 and that the concessions currently being granted would be cut.
Palaniswami, after a meeting with an expert panel amid growing cases of coronavirus here, said the lockdowns would apply in many areas falling under the jurisdiction of Chennai and Greater Chennai Police. These areas fall in Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, and Kanchipuram districts.
He said that during the 12-day period, only essential services would be allowed with certain fixed restrictions. He said that the proposed lockdown would remain in force from 19 to 30 June and a full shutdown would be implemented on both Sundays (21 and 28 June), with no exemptions.
