Massive snarls were reported at the Noida-Delhi bordersNOIDA: Massive snarls were reported at the Noida-Delhi borders as Noida police intensified checking both at the DND Flyway and Kalindi Kunj on Monday.
At the DND Flyway, it was an unusual sight in the evening rush hours as Noida police took over all the lanes on both sides of the border for controlling the entire Noida-Delhi traffic. This was because with the reopening of the borders, Delhi Police, which earlier used to man the other side, went almost missing from the DND Flyway.
As a result of stricter checking 5pm onward, long queues were witnessed at both sides of the border with vehicles slowing down at the checkpoints. Many commuters were sent back to Noida as well as Delhi by the cops because they did not have passes.
Those travelling to Delhi from Noida without a pass were also given a warning by Noida cops that they would not be allowed to return in the absence of a pass. "There were many people travelling without a pass, but we have told them to travel at their own risk. Many returned," said a Noida cop.
A police officer deployed at the spot told TOI that the Delhi Police has removed all their personnel from the DND, barring one constable, after the Delhi government decided to allow commuters entry into the national capital. "On Monday, only one Delhi cop was present in the morning for some time. After he left the spot, a team of Noida cops took control of the border movement," he said.
Noida police ACP Arun Kumar Singh told the media that since a lot of commuters enter Delhi without a pass due to irregular checking at the border, it leads to snarls once they return to Noida and are subjected to checking in the evening.
