COVID care centres may come up in all assembly segments

Panaji/Margao: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the government is ready to set up COVID care centres in all the assembly constituencies, if required.
Speaking at a function at the Secretariat on Monday, Sawant said that various facilities, including COVID care centres, are being set up to take care of the people who tested positive for the virus.
“The government has been setting up COVID care centres at various places…  However, some people are trying to play politics on such facilities. I appeal to the people not to oppose setting up of such facilities…,” he said.
Sawant maintained that if the family and the doctor from Mangor Hill, Vasco, had informed the health authorities in time and undergone the COVID test then there would not have been a spike of coronavirus positive cases in the state.
“We have to create facilities like COVID care centres, as numbers of positive cases are increasing. Hence the government is ready for setting up COVID care centres in all the assembly constituencies, if required in the future,” he explained.
Sawant said that we must honour the health workers working tirelessly to save the COVID positive persons, appealing to the people not to ostracise those infected by the deadly virus.
South Goa district collector Ajit Roy on Monday said that structures have been identified in all assembly constituencies of South Goa for   designating them as COVID care centres.
The orders for requisitioning them will be issued under the Disaster Management Act, as and when the need arises.
Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, Roy said the Navelim indoor stadium and the old Hospicio Hospital at Pajifond will be used for admitting the COVID patients.
