  • Maharashtra on Monday recorded 2,786 coronavirus cases

Hours after the Shiv Sena took a dig at its Maharashtra coalition partner Congress, in its mouthpiece Saamana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi -- political coalition formed after the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election -- government, saying the coalition partners were busy infighting even when the coronavirus cases are rising in the state.

With over 1 lakh confirmed coronavirus cases, Maharashtra continues to dominate the country-wide spread of the infection. Maharashtra on Monday recorded 2,786 coronavirus cases and 178 deaths due to the infection, taking the state's caseload to 110,744 and the number of casualties to 4,128.

On Tuesday, Shiv Sena took a swipe at its ally Congress and said the party is like an "old cot that starts to squeak every now and then".

"When a CM is elected, his decision is final in all matters. Sharad Pawar himself abides by this rule and meets the chief minister every now and then and gives suggestions. Even Congress is doing good work but every now and then like an old cot it starts to squeak," Saamana said.

"It is an old party with history but in this cot there are many party heavyweights which is the reason why the old cot is making a sound. CM should be ready to face this from Congress," the Saamana article has said further.

Hours later, BJP spokesperson Ram Kadam alleged that the government is not concerned about the coronavirus patients dying "due to lack of beds". He also alleged that even as "Maharashtra has become China", the coalition partners were busy infighting.

"They are talking about a noise-making bed, but sadly are not concerned about patients dying in Maharashtra for the lack of beds in hospitals," Ram Kadam said, adding, "Is there some self-respect left in Congress and NCP?"

He further added: "The MVA is busy thinking only about beds and chairs... Its also worth a thought that after so much of insults, is there some self-respect left for the Congress and NCP? They are busy with infighting as Maharashtra has become China."
