HYDERABAD:
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and Nalgonda MP N
Uttam Kumar Reddy has called upon the party leaders and cadre to restrain from extravagant celebrations and cake cuttings to mark Congress ex-president Rahul Gandhi’s birthday on June 19. Instead, the party members and cadre should distribute food kits among the people in distress due to
Covid-19 lockdown, give essential commodities and other help marking the birthday of
Rahul Gandhi on Friday.
The Congress party will also honour the medical, health, sanitation and other frontline workers who are selflessly fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic on the occasion of Rahul Gandhi’s birthday.
Addressing the party leaders and cadre along with AICC general secretary in charge of
Telangana R C Khuntia through a video-conference on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and the extraordinary difficulties being faced by the people in the country, Rahul Gandhi has decided not to celebrate his birthday this year.
“Restrain from any kind of extravaganza or cake cutting. Distribute food kits among the people in distress. It has been decided to ensure supply of food kits to at least 50 lakh needy people in the country and Telangana state should be ahead of everyone in this initiative. The distribution of food kits should be done from village to state level. Essential commodities should also be distributed among poor people while fruits should be distributed among patients,” Uttam said.
The
TPCC chief alleged that the TRS government was suppressing the voice of the opposition. “Chief Minister
K Chandrasekhar Rao has stopped the works on the irrigation projects started by the previous Congress government. The pending projects are completely being ignored and huge public money is being wasted on new projects which did not irrigate even an acre of land till date,” Utam alleged.
He also condemned the TRS government for denying permission to Congress members to inspect the pending irrigation projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers. “KCR government is not constructing irrigation projects to provide water for cultivation but to get huge commissions and kickbacks,” Uttam alleged.
The Nalgonda MP also condemned the inflated electricity bills served on all categories of consumers in Telangana. The poor and middle-class people have been burdened due to high electricity bills which are at least five to six times above normal bills they used to receive before lock down, he said.
Uttam charged the TRS government of failing to handle the Covid-19 situation. The state government failed to trace, test and treat the patients. The negligence of the TRS government for is responsible for the increase in covid-19 cases by alarming proportions in Telangana state, Uttam alleged.
