Has 300 become the new ‘stable’ for Ahmedabad?

The last time Ahmedabad saw a single day jump lower than 300 was June 6, when there were 289 cases. Since then, the figure has remained above 300, with Monday being the ninth consecutive day.

The district reported 327 fresh cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, taking the tally to 16,967. The death toll reached 1,210 with 23 more persons succumbing to the infection.

For Ahmedabad, June begane with 314 new cases, after which cases dropped below 300. On June 5, the district reported 324 cases, follwed by 289 on June 6. Since then, every day the daily figure of new cases has been above 300.

The city has 3,346 active cases at present, with north zone accounting for 785, the highest. It is followed by west zone with 660 cases, east with 587, south with 408, central with 376, southwest with 294 and northwest with 236.

34 new cases in rural A’bad

Of the 327 cases, 34 were reported from Ahmedabad (Rural), its highest till now, besides three deaths. The maximum cases, 13, were reported in Dholka, followed by 7 in Viramgam, 4 each in Daskroi, Dhandhuka and Sanand and one each in Bavla and Mandal. Rural Ahmedabad has so far reported 605 cases and 41deaths Meanwhile, District Development Office Ahmedabad said that door-to-door surveillance had been carried out at 26,215 houses till now.

Gujarat cross 24k-mark; deaths toll above 1.5k-mark

The state reported 514 new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the count to 24,104, while the death toll rose to 1,506 with 28 new fatalities, the state health department said. This is the second highest single day jump after 517 on June 13, and the third consecutive day of more than 500 new cases.

Gujarat first reported 510 cases on June 5, which was the highest till then. It again reported the same number of cases on June 10, which rose to 513 on June 11. On June 13 and 14, there were 517 and 511new cases respectively. In the remaining 9 days, the daily figure remained above 400, with the lowest being 415 on June 2. Besides 23 deaths in Ahmedabad, four were reported in Surat and one in Aravalli.

As 339 more patients were discharged in 24 hours, the number of recoveries in the state rose to 16,672, the department said. With this, the state now has 5,926 active cases, of which 71patients are on ventilator, it said.

Gujarat has so far conducted tested 2,92,909 samples for coronavirus. Surat reported 64 new cases, taking its total to 2,643. In Vadodara, the coronavirus tally rose to 1,597 with the addition of 44 new cases.


Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported 15 new cases, while Jamnagar and Bharuch recorded nine each and Rajkot eight. Sixteen other districts reported new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the health department said.


No increase in fare of AMTS tickets this year

Unlike every year when AMTS increases its ticket fare by Re 1for every 3 km, this year the authorities have decided not to do so. The fare hike is calculated as per a fomula and is put into effect every year on April 1. At a meeting of AMTS on Monday, the office-bearers passed a resolution that there would be no such hike this year due to the Covid situation. In another development, contractual employeesm mainly bus conductors, of AMTS will get half-a-month's salary for April and May when the services were suspended. The amount will be decided on the basis of payments made to them during January-March. According to officials, AMTS will be paying Rs 30 lakh as salary to these employees.
