Gumla man is 9th Covid victim, 1k patients cured

Ranchi: An 81-year-old man from Gumla district died during treatment at the integrated Covid-19 ward in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday, becoming the ninth casualty of the novel coronavirus in the state.
The man was admitted to a city-based private hospital after he had suffered injuries in a road accident last week. Soon after he tested positive on June 12, he was shifted to Rims Covid ward. “The man from Sisai block in Gumla was admitted to Rims with severe injuries in hand and legs on June 12. A team of doctors from different departments were attending to him, but he died on Monday morning,” a Rims official said.
Meanwhile, with 95 persons being discharged after recovering from Covid-19 on Monday, the total number of persons cured of the infection touched 1,000. The state also recorded 30 fresh cases of the new virus on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 1793 (including two patients detected in East Singhbhum around midnight on Sunday). Of these, 784 are active cases.
On Monday, Khunti recorded its biggest one-day spike with six fresh cases. East Singhbhum reported eight cases, Ranchi six, Chatra five, Lohardaga three and Hazaribag and Simdega one each.
Of the six patients in Ranchi, four are residents of Ramgarh district and were admitted to Rims isolation ward based on their symptoms. The other two include a foreign returnee and a resident of Church Road area.
“A 37-year-old man from Palamu, who returned from Kuwait via Rajasthan, tested positive on Monday. He had undergone mandatory quarantine at a government quarantine centre in Rajasthan upon arrival, but he tested positive on a TrueNat machine at sadar hospital five days ago. An RT-PCR test confirmed that he is infected,” said a health department official.
