Coronavirus | Home Minister Amit Shah and Harsh Vardhan to chair meetings

The meeting comes in the wake of rising coronavirus cases in Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan will chair two crucial meetings to assess the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the capital on Sunday.

Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), will attend both meetings. Mr. Kejriwal on Wednesday called on Mr. Shah to inform him of the situation in Delhi.

Sources said a plan revolving around the “joint efforts of all the agencies possible” was on the anvil. This was also likely to include opening up of the “unutilised” municipal hospitals, dispensaries and properties, said a source.

The meetings, which come in the wake of the confirmed coronavirus cases soaring to 36,000 and the death toll rising to 1,200 in Delhi, are in line with the Centre’s increasing intervention.

The first meeting, scheduled for 11 a.m., will be attended by the Union Home and Health Ministers, Mr. Baijal, Mr. Kejriwal and Dr. Guleria. The second meeting, at 5 p.m., will also have the Mayors and Commissioners of the three BJP-ruled civic bodies.

Both meetings come in the wake of the formation of a panel of experts from various Central bodies by Mr. Baijal for the management of the situation arising out of the pandemic in the capital.
