Gurgaon: To solve the problem of erratic accessibility of multiple gates at the outer areas of DLF Phase 2, the enforcement wing of department of town and planning demolished one of them and gave the RWA 10 days’ time to remove the others.
The demolition was carried out following multiple complaints from the residents in the area. The RWA had fixed a time for entry and exit from the gate and it was allegedly causing inconvenience to the residents, especially during the night, as they had to take longer routes to reach home.
“As per the policy, no gates can be installed on 18-metre, 24-metre and 60-metre roads. After getting permissions, the RWA can only install a boom barrier with a security guard and no one can be stopped from using the particular road at any time of the day,” said district town planner (DTP) RS Batth, adding that the department is not against the safety and security of residents.
There are six gates at the outer areas of DLF Phase 2 that are used for entry and exit. Out of the six gates, only one gate was demolished on Saturday as the RWA assured the officials to remove the remaining gates and get required permission from the department within 10 days. The DTCP did not raze the gates installed on the internal roads of the colony. “The norms clearly specify that gates cannot be installed on the thoroughfare,” said Batth.
Batth said gates are installed in several parts of the city, including internal areas of DLF Phase 2. The department will now start a drive against such gates as per the norm.
A section of residents were against the demolition of gates. “The gate was not illegal and it was there since the colony was built years ago. The demolition has caused undue threat. No action was taken when we have been asking for removal of illegal PGs, shops and guest houses running prostitution rackets,” said a resident Amit Agarwal.
