The news of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput killing himself has shocked the Indian film industry. Sushant’s body was found at his Bandra home, Mumbai police confirmed.ย Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Trimukhe confirmed it was a case of suicide and said the Mumbai Police has begun investigation.

Sushant Singh Rajput, who made his acting debut with Star Plus TV show Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil (2008), shot to fame with Zee TVโ€™s popular soap opera Pavitra Rishta. His role of Manav in the Ekta Kapoor serial earned him several awards including Indian Television Academy Awards and BIG Star Entertainment Awards.ย Sushant also participated in some reality shows including Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 where he emerged as the first runner-up. He soon made his transition to Bollywood with Kai Po Che (2013) which got him several debut awards.

In a career spanning over a decade, Sushant also became a part of hit projects like Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, Kedarnath, Sonchiriya and Chhichhore among more. His portrayal of former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni in the biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story remained one of the highlights of his career. In fact, the movie was one of the biggest box office success of his career.

'Sushant Singh Rajput sought counselling for depression'

A day after Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra home in Mumbai, the police said the actor had shown symptoms of clinical depression and was consulting a psychiatrist. The investigators said they learnt this after recording the statement of six persons in connection with Rajput’s case.

The police said it was through their statements that they learnt that Sushant Singh Rajput was depressed and had sought counselling. He, however, was not taking any medication.

'Police to probe professional rivalry angle'

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh took to Twitter to share, "While the post mortem report says actor @itsSSR committed suicide by hanging himself, there are media reports that he allegedly suffered from clinical depression because of professional rivalry. @MumbaiPolice will probe this angle too."

Forensic lab to conduct probe in Sushant Singh Rajput's death case

The Forensic Science Laboratory at Kalina in Mumbai will conduct a probe into the case of alleged suicide by Sushant Singh Rajput and submit its report in 10 days, an official told PTI on Monday.

He was like a young brother to me. We exchanged a few messages a week ago, and I got no such hint that he was not feeling well. I had no idea about his battle with depression. Had I known, I would have been the first person to reach out to him. I always treated him like a younger brother. Itโ€™s a huge shock for each one of us.โ€

Sushant Singh Rajputโ€™s spokesperson said in a statement, โ€œIt pains us to share that Sushant Singh Rajput is no longer with us. We request his fans to keep him in their thoughts and celebrate his life and his work as they have done so far. We request the media to help us maintain privacy at this moment of grief.โ€
