MADURAI: A Chennai-based driver was caught by
Kanyakumari police for using fake e-pass to drop a family from Chennai to their native village. The sports utility car that was used for the trip was seized.
The driver was identified as Prakash from
CIT Nagar in Chennai. Inquiries revealed that he had taken Rs 4000 from the passenger to get an e-pass. However, he got a fake pass from an internet centre.
A police source said that
Suresh Kumar, from Aralvoimozhi village in Kanyakumari district, worked in Chennai. He approached Prakash for a drive, along with his family, to his native village in Kanyakumari. Prakash assured Suresh of getting him an e-pass. The driver charged Rs 4000 for the same.
The family was residing in Tondiarpet in Chennai.
They started their journey on Saturday. The car managed to cross Tirunelveli district, however, it was stopped at Kanyakumari border.
Police officials at the border checked their e-pass. When the barcode on the pass was scanned, they discovered that it was a fake one.
The family was immediately shifted to a quarantine facility. Police said that the car was seized and Prakash will be arrested after testing him for
Covid-19.
