Pakistan resorted to cross-LoC shelling in Banwat and other areas of Poonch and Rampur Sector of Baramulla district, say official sources.

The Pakistan Army restored to ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu’s Poonch and Kashmir’s Baramulla districts on Sunday, leaving one soldier dead.

According to the doctors in Poonch, an Army jawan with multiple splinter injuries was admitted to the hospital around 8 a.m. “The jawan was injured in a firing and shelling incident during the night,” an official said.

The Army has not identified the soldier so far. According to PTI, the soldier succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Official sources said the jawan was hit by splinters when Pakistan resorted to cross-LoC shelling in Banwat and other areas of Poonch on Saturday night.

A Srinagar-based Army spokesman said Pakistan also violated the ceasefire in Rampur Sector of Baramulla district.

“Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in Rampur by firing mortars and other weapons on Sunday morning. A befitting response is being given,” the spokesman said.
