Gurgaon: Forty boxes with 480 litre cough syrup were seized by the crime branch of Nuh police near the Punhana Civil Hospital on Friday.
“We had received a tip-off. Soon after it entered the district, we intercepted the vehicle near Civil Hospital in Punhana. It had around 40 of banned drugs,” said a police officer from Tauru’s crime unit. The vehicle was headed for Mathura in Uttar Pradesh from Rajasthan. Two persons in the vehicle, Radha Raman and Lakhan, were arrested. Both are from Mathura. “We are trying to identify those in the supply chain.” Cough syrup is often consumed as a cheap alternative to get high.
Nuh police also seized 127kg marijuana, packed in plastic bags and being smuggled with food grain.
The arrests came two days after police found 2,572 pieces of cow skin at Jamalgarh village in Nuh. “We had got a tipoff about the consignment. The two accused — Nina and Deenu — were busy loading the skin on two vehicles when we caught them. The consignment was headed for Hapur in Uttar Pradesh,” said sub-inspector Kawarpal, in charge of the cow protection unit of Nuh police.
Some cow skins were found in their houses and others in two vehicles. There were others found involved, but they managed to escape.
