A shopper has been ridiculed online after thinking they'd snapped up a bargain for wagyu beef.
Reddit user Dadumiao shared photos of the cut of meat he'd bought from Woolworths for only $34/1kg.
He shared the image side by side with a picture of wagyu steak from Costco.
'I bought wagyu beef from Woolies at a bargain price.' he wrote.
The piece of meat appeared remarkably similar to the wagyu steak going for $150/1kg at Costco.

But it was a fraction of the price and labelled as a piece of 'scotch fillet'.
Most commenters were skeptical that the man had actually found a bargain.
'It's not wagyu though, just an obese Hereford or something,' one user wrote.
'Exactly. Lots of fat does not equal wagyu. Scotch fillet is naturally a more fatty cut of meat,' another said.
Another suggested the cut of meat may have the same marbling because it was dry-aged beef from old dairy cows.
Cuts of meat from older cattle tend to produce higher levels of marbling or intramuscular fat, reported ABC news.
Wagyu beef is one of the most expensive cuts beef, due to the unique taste and chewiness of the highly marbled steak.
The meat comes from a genetic strain of cattle originally bred in Japan.
