Zoom to Deny Chinese Government Control of Blocking Accounts Outside Mainland China
Saturday, 13 June 2020 () Videoconferencing platform Zoom announced that it will no longer grant the Chinese governments requests of suspending accounts located outside of mainland China. The previous decision sparked outrage among users of the potential ties between the platform and China.
Zoom is creating software that will block users based on geography. The feature comes after the Chinese government asked the company to block entities endorsing the Tiananmen Square protests of 1980.
