A doctor who works at three Melbourne GP clinics has tested positive to the coronavirus, one of eight new cases reported on Saturday.

Six of the new cases were among returned travellers in hotel quarantine and one was a close contact of a worker at Cedar Meats, the Department of Health & Human Services said on Saturday.

Health authorities said they were contacting users of the clinics where the infected GP worked recently.

The GP worked at the Lilydale Medical Centre on June 11 and at the Cedars Medical Clinic in Coburg and Croydon Family Practice on June 9.

All three sites were being deep cleaned, the department said.

Health authorities believe the risk of transmission is low because the doctor has never developed symptoms.
