As vehicular traffic increases on the roads across NCR during Unlock 1, a Gurgaon resident has started a unique initiative to assist motorists in maintaining safety and sanitisation standards while out on the road. City resident Rishi Prakash has built and installed a free-of-cost sanitisation booth for cars at the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza on NH-48. Prakash, an inventor by profession, works in the Research and Development Wing of a private company in the city and says he was encouraged to build this booth by his colleagues and subordinates. "When the lockdown was underway, my colleagues asked me if I could build a system which would automatically check and disinfect people as they entered a building. I built that for my own neighbourhood. After the lockdown was lifted, I decided to expand the same principle for vehicles and placed it on the busiest place in the city," he tells us.
The booth is stationed on the side of the road near the toll plaza and the service is available to all car owners free of cost. He was assisted in this initiative by Think Tank of India, a non-profit organisation, which helped him with the logistics of putting the booth in place. The fully-automated system cleans and sanitises a car in eight seconds without any human interaction required. "It was built keeping social distancing in mind," says Prakash. The inventor now plans to expand his services to other parts of the city that see high traffic.
