MUMBAI: The price of diesel has been hiked by over Rs 5 a litre in less than two weeks and transporters on Friday warned if the price hike was not controlled it could have an impact on freight rates.
They further said the burden of hikes may fall on the common man as the price of essentials like foodgrains, vegetables and fruits could increase in coming days.
Diesel comprises 65% of transportation costs. This is the sixth consecutive day prices of diesel and petrol in Mumbai have been hiked. The retail rate of petrol on Friday was Rs 81.53 (55 paise hike), while that of diesel was Rs 71.48 (56 paise hike).
