China races to find virus vaccine, put scandals in the past, reports AFP.
The Military Academy of Medical Sciences is among those working on a vaccine, in partnership with a pharmaceutical firm. China has authorised fast-track procedures, allowing preclinical phases -- such as animal tests and other studies - to be conducted at the same time instead of one after the other. But Ding Sheng, dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Beijing's Tsinghua University, sounded a note of caution around using "non-conventional methods".

A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice A A Sayed also said that going by the current situation of the economy and health care, "one can hardly think of a fair society in the near future". It said that the COVID-19 crisis and the lockdown have hit the Indian economy and shown how "pitiable" the condition of migrant workers in the country was.

Brazil's biggest cemetery to exhume graves to free up space
Sao Paulo's municipal funeral service said in a statement Friday that the remains of people who died at least three years ago will be exhumed and put in numbered bags, then stored temporarily in 12 storage containers it has purchased. The containers will be delivered to several cemeteries within 15 days, the statement said.

India's COVID-19 tally breached the three-lakh mark on Saturday with a record single-day spike of 11,458 infections, while the death toll rose to 8,884 with 386 new fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said. With a COVID-19 caseload of 3,08,993, India is now the fourth worst-hit nation by the pandemic, according to the Worldometer, a coronavirus statistics website.
South Korea capital adds more coronavirus cases
South Korea has reported 49 new coronavirus cases. Most most of them are in the densely populated Seoul metropolitan area, where health authorities have been struggling to slow transmissions linked to entertainment and leisure activities, church gatherings and low-income workers who can't afford to stay home.The figures released Saturday brought national totals to 12,051 cases and 277 deaths.

A Chinese official said on Saturday Beijing's Fengtai district was in "wartime emergency mode" following a spike in novel coronavirus cases centered around a major wholesale market there.
The total number of cases surges to 3,08,993; 386 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. There are 1,45,779 active cases, 1,54,330 cured/discharged/migrated and 8,884 deaths in the country so far.

Plans are afoot to transfer patients out and make necessary infrastructure arrangements to cater to those infected by the novel coronavirus. “They discussed the infrastructure availability and problems associated with Hindu Rao, Kasturba and Rajan Babu TB hospitals. With a steep increase in Covid-19 positive cases, the hospitals are being made ready for any contingency,” the official added.
