Punjab: Illegal mining operations busted in Nangal

PATIALA: The mining officials on Saturday morning confiscated a tipper and other equipment being used to extract the mineral from the Satluj riverbed in Kalmot village in Nangal near Anandpur Sahib.
The raid was carried out by a team led by XEN of the mining department. DC Sonali Giri said the enforcement teams of the mining department that were engaged in efforts to check illegal mining in the district had been keeping a close watch in the area and had detected mining activity in the said village.
Following this, the team started to keep a strict vigil and on Saturday morning at around 4.30 am when the mining mafia reached the spot, the team of mining officials swung into action and reached the spot from where all individuals ran away.
The team was able to confiscate a tipper and some mining equipment. She said an all-out effort was being made in the district to curtail illegal mining.
